FAQs

Below are some answers to frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions or wish to discuss your individual circumstances please contact me using the details on the contact page.

Allergies

Please let me know in advance if you have a severe allergy so I can ensure your safety.

In particular nut oils, sesame oil, avocado oil, essential oils and perfumes are common massage oil ingredients. I usually use pure almond oil.

Laundry detergents - if you have a severe allergy to these you may wish to bring your own drapes (2 flat single sheets or similar)

Appointment time

The appointment times stated include a consultation, dressing / undressing, the massage and any aftercare given.

Please be on time for your appointment as I am not able to extent appointment times to accommodate lateness.

Benefits of massage

Massage can bring you to a state of calm / relaxation which promotes the body's own healing processes.

This is beneficial to the immune, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and endocrine systems as they are all able to work more efficiently when the body is switched to the parasympathetic nervous system ( also known as the repair and maintenance).

Massage is also beneficial to reduce stress and anxiety; providing a safe space to relax and find peace in the moment can help improve mental health.

Through human touch massage can be helpful with the effects of grief, loneliness, trauma and low self esteem / body image issues.

By working into the body's muscles and soft tissues relief can be bought to tension, stiffness, and sore muscles.

Cancellations

Please be fair and give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel an appointment. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice I reserve the right to charge 50% of the full fee to protect myself from loss of income / cover the cost of therapy room hire for your cancelled session.

Data

Only essential data is kept - this is to satisfy insurance requirements, to ensure massages take into account the clients individual circumstances and wishes, to assist admin / queries and to avoid repeating the same questions at subsequent appointments.

Data kept  electronically is password protected. Paper data is kept in a locked container. No name or identifiable information is recorded on client consultation forms (a code is used).

Please contact me if you would like to see your data or have further questions about how it is used or stored.

I use a third party app to process bank payments - they have their own separate privacy policy. You can avoid use of this facility by paying with cash on the day.

Discounts

Currently I am working to keep my prices as low as I can for everybody.

Clients booking 3 appointments as a block get a special price (see "prices" for details)  - note that all 3 sessions must be paid for as a block by or at the first appointment.

I can usually arrange a 45 minute appointment for clients as a taster session or if they are not able to pay for a full hour appointment.

Please contact me for further information / to request this.

Payment

Payment is taken at the start of the massage appointment. You can pay by cash, card or apple pay. There is an option for regular clients to pay by bank transfer.

Pregnancy

0-12 weeks: during this time the body is undergoing many changes so only very limited gentle massage is recommended. Please call to discuss the pros and cons of massage before booking if you are considering massage during the first trimester.

12+ weeks: during this time massage is offered in a side lying or sitting position. Please let me know in advance so I can bring extra pillows for your comfort.

Travel & accessability

I use therapy rooms in different locations including above the Yogasara studio in Picton Street Montpelier BS6 and downstairs at Artigo,  Bishopston BS7.

Both therapy rooms are accessed by stairs. If this is inaccessible for you sometimes I can arrange a different room or visit you at home. Please contact me to discuss this if needed.

Picton Street: Parking is metered Monday to Friday. Public transport: bus stop on Gloucester Road or train to Monpelier Station. There are bike stands in the back garden - please let me know if you need access to this and allow a few minutes extra to lock your bike.

Bishopston: Free parking in the side streets; allow time to find a space, buses stop very close on Gloucester Road.

What to wear

Wear your usual clothes - although comfortable is best. Be prepared to remove jewellery. You may prefer to tie long hair out of the way when lying on your front - this also reduces the risk of oil getting into it.

For a full body massage you will normally undress down to your underwear - I leave the room for you to do this and there are drapes (sheets) on the massage table for you to cover yourself with. As I massage I only uncover the area of your body I am working on.

For a tailored massage how much you undress will depend on which areas are being massaged.

For a Head, Feet & Hands massage you can stay dressed if you prefer but please wear loose trousers / leggings that can be rolled up and a short sleeve top (be mindful of how much access the top gives to your neck if you wish for it to be included) . Tights, socks and shoes will need to be removed for the foot massage.

For a Lomi style massage it is best to wear a thong, briefs or nothing - this massage is not recommended for those new to massage.

If you are new to massage and would like to tailor a massage so that you can remain clothed please either book the head, hands and feet or contact me for advice - I can combine some full body techniques clothed if required.
